PET OF THE MONTH
Pet of the month is any patient we may have seen in the past that has impacted us one way or another. Usually this pet is chosen by staff; however, if you have a pet you wish to nominate, please speak with one of our receptionists for more information.
I arrived at Arrow Lakes Veterinary Hospital several months ago, with a broken back leg and damaged tail. Dr. Fraser took me in, repaired my leg & tail. I stayed at the clinic for two months while my leg was healing, and became the staff’s favorite kitten! Back in July, Dr. Fraser found me a new home, and my new owners think I am ever so special. I am very alert, inquisitive & love affection. My new home has lots of hardwood floors – really great to run on (and I run a lot) – although turning corners at high speed are a bit of a problem! I’m working on making friends with their dog, Maggie May – it may take a while
Spot Pip and Madge
We are Madge (13), Spot (9) and Pip (10 months). We are border collies who like to herd cows, sheep and geese. I, Madge (far right), am the senior dog in this photo and I don’t like any silly business like tug-of-war, digging or playing with a ball. Spot (with the spots) is not sensible and spends too much time barking, running around our property and chasing balls. He runs in precise patterns which is better than running at random. Young Pip is more sensible. She will climb any fence or kennel and chew through her leash in one bite if she sees livestock. She would rather chase Spot than play with a ball. She will be a good herding dog. We all cooperate if there are other animals to organize. We don’t like chaos. We all like meat.
My name is Benson, and I'm a one year old golden doodle pup (my mom often refers to me as a teddy bear). I am from a small town in Saskatchewan, where all of my brothers and sisters have been adopted by their lovable families. You'll notice me to be long haired and shaggy in the winter, and shaved like a poodle in the summer. There's nothing I love more than meeting new people, pups and stealing hand towels; you could say I'm a social butterfly. I have one sister that is a cat; we are slowly becoming great friends (on her terms of course). My hobbies include hiking, running, walking, swimming, playing fetch, playing wrestle with other dogs, jumping off tall rocks into the lake / river and chasing shadows / laser pointers. Most of all, I love to snuggle up to mom and dad in the mornings and evenings, most of the time receiving copious amounts of belly rubs!
Hi, my name is Gary (aka Gare Bear)! I’m an eleven-month-old Corgi. Although I usually have a look of concern on my face, I can be a bit of a goof ball. My favourite thing to do is explore the Rossland trails with my mom and dad – and the nap that comes after! I love playing with my dog friends and cousins too, but they better not ask me to share my toys with them! Anyone who pets me or gives me treats is a friend of mine, so if you see me out and about come say hello!
They say Berners are 3 yrs a young dog, 3 yrs a good dog, 3 yrs
an old dog…anything else is by God’s good grace. Riki, a 10 yr. old
Bernese Mountain Dog, took all of that time to get to the “Good Dog”
stage. So hopefully she will be around a very long time. People ask
what we feed her and my husband usually replies,“energizer bunnies”.
She’s slowing down now but she sure is a good dog. -glenda
Ezri is a new resident of Castlegar and already a loyal and frequent patient of the Arrow Lake Vet Hospital.
This five-year old flame point Siamese cat recently relocated with her family from Mackenzie, British Columbia. Her interests are napping in sunbeams, stealing Lego blocks from her human housemates, and shedding on the furniture. She is extremely cuddly and is not shy about demanding affection. Unfortunately she often thinks 5AM is the ideal time for people to scratch her ears. "And Oh! Since you’re up anyway, why don’t you feed me? Yes, now. Feed me. NOW. RIGHT NOW!” Fogo, the resident dog, is more than happy to get in on the action. Despite this routine, Ezri is much loved.
In May, Ezri had surgery to remove bladder stones. She came through like a trooper and is feeling much better thanks to the care and attention of the Arrow Lake staff.

Hi: My name is Gracie and my Mommy found me in a newspaper ad when I was three months old and I came from Grand Forks, I was born on July 2, 2008. My Daddy and Mommy say I am the cutest dog ever. I am now 7 years old in people time. I have an older sister named Shasta and a kitty cat named Keeya. My parents spoil me cause I have a big basket full of toys and stuffies which I picked out myself, I love going shopping to Total Pet.
My toys and stuffies all have names and I know which one my Mommy and Daddy are talking about cause I am so smart. I love going car-car and I must sit in the driver’s seat at all times just so I can help drive. I especially love going for a walk to the park, and the ducks that swim in the river are spectacular, if I wasn’t on a leash I would join them in the river splashing and swimming. Did I mention I love swimming at the lake and fetching a stick.
Last summer a mean doggy attacked me for no reason but the super duper care I received here at this hospital was great, it sure hurt but I survived. Oh, did I mention I love treats any shape and size except the green good for you kind those are yucky.
Baron is a three-year-old German Shepherd/Chow Chow cross 3 years. He was found in a dump with his siblings at one month old outside of Prince Albert, Sask.
We adopted him when he was three months old from the Prince Albert S.P.C.A. He has over come many issues from being weaned to young, mainly socialization but has worked very hard to be the good dog he is today. He loves swimming, camping and going for rides in the truck with his Poppa.
He loves to meet new doggy friends but is still very shy around new humans he meets.
We feel so lucky to have him in our lives, he gives us so much love and tries so hard to please. He is the poster boy for rescue and adoption, I wish more people would look for their forever pup from a rescue.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Arrow Lake for their patience and understanding when dealing with Baron, he is getting to know everyone there and I think he likes Dr. Fraser!
My BEST FRIEND Kobi is an amazingly kind and loving dog. She loves her family and gives us so much love. She has just been gifted a second chance of life with the expert help and love from Arrow Lakes Vet Hospital's doctors and staff! She loves to go and "visit" and see all her new friends there! Kobi now enjoys her beach and her long walks again thanx to this amazing crew! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
